4.5.14 Low temperature. The warning signal shall be subjected to a low temperature test in
accordance with MIL-STD-810, method 502, "Low Temperature", except that the temperature
for the entire test shall be -54 °C. The warning signal shall meet the low temperature operation
requirements of 3.4.6 (d). During the final hour of the test, the warning signal shall be energized
and shall operate as specified in 3.4.
4.5.15 Short circuit. All output pins of the warning signal shall be individually
connected to ground and the warning signal energized for not less than 30 seconds. The warning
signal shall withstand a short circuit in accordance with the requirements specified in 3.4.8.
Upon completion of this test, the warning signal shall operate as specified herein.
4.5.16 Harmonic content. Measurements shall be made on all four output pins separately
using a harmonic analyzer connected across the secondary of the audio transformer when loaded
as specified in 3.4.2.2. The measurements shall meet the requirements specified in 3.4.1.2.
4.5.17 Pressurization test. The warning signal shall be placed in a chamber with
absolute pressure of 28 psi and a temperature of 25 °C for 4 hours. During this period, no
deformation or other damage to the warning signal shall occur. At the conclusion of this test, the
warning signal shall be closely examined for evidence of deformation and shall operate as
specified herein. Evidence of deformation, damage, or any unsatisfactory operation shall be
cause for rejection.
4.6 Maintenance of qualification. At specified intervals determined by the qualifying
activity, the manufacturer must be able to demonstrate that the company still has the capabilities
and facilities necessary to produce the QPL item(s) in accordance with this specification and
with the provisions governing qualification in accordance with SD-6.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Packaging. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as
specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). When packaging of materiel is to be performed by
DoD or in-house contractor personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging
activity to ascertain packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the
inventory control point's packaging activities within the military service or defense agency, or
within the military service's system command. Packaging data retrieval is available from the
managing military department's or defense agency's automated packaging files, CD-ROM
products, or by contacting the responsible packaging activity.
6. NOTES

6.1 Intended use. The MA-1 warning signal is for use on aircraft to warn the pilot of an
unsafe landing gear condition through injection of an interrupted tone in his headset and a
flashing lamp indicator in the cockpit.
